Lakefront Brewery plans additional seating on RiverWalk

Lakefront Brewery Inc. plans to add more seating on its RiverWalk space, and will build a canopy to keep some of the seating area out of the weather, under a new proposal.

Lakefront, 1872 N. Commerce St., already has some picnic tables on the RiverWalk. The proposal calls for building a canopy over those tables.

Also, Lakefront wants to add some decorative fencing on the RiverWalk's edge to make the area safer, brewery owner Russ Klisch said Tuesday. Additional seating would be added along that fence, which would include table tops.

The outdoor seating will be available for people who tour Lakefront, and for the brewery's restaurant patrons who want to enjoy a post-meal drink, Klisch said. He also plans to have a hot dog cart on the RiverWalk.

The city Plan Commission is to review the proposal at its Monday meeting. If it wins Common Council approval, Klisch would complete the improvements by early June.

Lakefront last fall received city approval to on to an empty lot just north of the brewery, at 1890 N. Commerce St., which Klisch in October bought for $1.2 million. Klisch said Lakefront needs to accumulate more cash before it can begin that project.
